Events in the Park

Below are full details of our currently scheduled events. Events are added on a regular basis so make sure you check again soon!

Pond Dipping

Sun 10th May: 10.30-12.30 pm

The Hub / Wetlands

Drop in session

Join us for a pond dipping session in the wetlands. Discover the creatures that live in the Park's water habitats with local expert Martin Sutton.

We'll be meeting at the Hub before heading to the wetland area to investigate.

  • This is a family friendly event, all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This FoGH event is free to attend, but donations are always welcome.

 

FoGH Green Team: Basket Planting

Sun 31st May: am and pm sessions

The Hub

Today we will be replanting the baskets around the bowling green and playground.

The FoGH Green Team meets occasionally to undertake essential maintenance on the flowerbeds and other areas of the park. Please wear suitable attire for the planned task (gloves will be 'handy'). Please be aware some Green Team events will stray from conventional paths.

There will usually be tasks suitable for all abilities and for all weather conditions.

  • This is a volunteer activity day and will include some physical work to further improve the look of the park.
  • Please be aware that this event is weather dependant and may, in extreme circumstances, be cancelled.
  • Tools will be provided.
  • Whether you just drop in for half an hour or stay for the entire time, we'd love to see you.
 

Moth Identification Morning

Sat 20th June: 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

The Hub

Drop in to the Hub to see what night-flying insects Dr Ian Beavis can identify from the overnight moth trap.

  • This is a family friendly event, all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • This is a regular event: look out for future events so you can see how the moth population changes over the course of the year.

This FoGH event is free to attend, but donations are always welcome.

 

Kent High Weald Volunteer Day

Wed 24th June - Thu 25th June: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Hilbert Gates / The Oast

Clearing invasive species and pathways.

Kent High Weald run regular volunteer days to help preserve the high standard of the park's natural resources.

There will usually be an assortment of tasks to undertake, suitable for most abilities.

  • This is a volunteer activity day and will include some physical work to further improve the look of the park.
  • This event will go off regular pathways, please wear suitable clothing and footwear.
  • Tea, coffee & biscuits provided; bring a packed lunch if you intend staying for the whole event.
  • As a general rule, meet at Hilbert Gates before the work detail begins.
 

Street Art Workshop

Sat 11th July: Various sessions through the day

The Hub

Join local street artists Davide and Lily to learn the skills behind street art. Suitable for young people aged 8+. Have a go and create your own design! Learn tricks and techniques from a professional artist.

  • Please wear outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather and a painting activity.

Limited tickets (£7.50) for this event will be available from 11th June 2026. FoGH members get exclusive access to tickets before they go on general release. If you are not currently a member and want early access to tickets you can join here.

FoGH events are ticketed mainly to control attendance and prices are set as low as possible, additional donations can be made to FoGH when purchasing tickets. All donations go towards park projects.

Kent High Weald Volunteer Day

Thu 16th July: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Bug Safari with Dr Ian Beavis

Sun 26th July: 10.30 am / 2.00 pm

The Hub

An expert on the natural world and an approachable guide, Ian will be leading a fun, lively and informative trail around the park in a search for some of our interesting bugs.

The Bug Safari is aimed at families with children of all ages who want to learn more about the insects which share their home with us.

  • This is a family friendly event, all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Orchard Activities

Sun 2nd August: am and pm sessions

The Community Orchard

We will concentrate on pruning the stone fruit trees (cherries, plums, etc) at this event. Please bring gloves and tools if you have them.

FoGH volunteers will be working in the orchard to keep everything tidy.

  • This is a volunteer activity day and will include some physical work to further improve the look of the park.
  • This event will go off regular pathways, please wear suitable clothing and footwear.

WaterAid & Climate Change Talk

Wed 26th August: 7:30 pm

The Hub

Following the water supply issues in Tunbridge Wells in 2025/26, Water Aid volunteer Paul Kent will give a talk about global water issues.

Paul will talk about who Water Aid are, how and what they do, water supply in poorer countries, and issues with climate change. There will be time for questions.

    This FoGH event is free to attend, but donations are always welcome.

    We will be taking donations for Water Aid during the evening.

    Apple Day

    Sat 3rd October: 11am-2pm

    Hilbert Gates / The Oast

    Join FoGH for children's craft activities & refreshments and we'll be making juice with our apple press.

    If you have apples of your own please bring them along and we will incorporate with our own. We can not guarantee you will be able to take home juice from YOUR apples. Volunteers are needed to help cut up the apples and help with the production process.

    • This is a family friendly event, all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
    • Please bring clean bottles to take home your juice or to share with others.

    This FoGH event is free to attend, but donations are always welcome.

    Get the family into the spirit of Halloween with the Fiends of Grosvenor & Hilbert Park themed craft event.

    Christmas Tree Crafts

    Sat 28th November: 2-4 pm

    The Hub

    Get the whole family into the festive spirit with our Christmas-themed crafts event as we prepare to decorate our tree for the Tunbridge Wells Christmas Tree Festival held at King Charles the Martyr.

    • This is a family friendly event, all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Apple Howling with Iron Spring Morris

    Sat 2nd January 2027: 2:00 - 3:00 pm

    Hilbert Gates / The Oast

    Join us as we start the year with Iron Spring Morris as we scare bad spirits from the orchard.

    We'll start at the Oast where there will be refreshments and dancing, then process to the orchard where we gather to frighten any malignant spirits. Remember to bring pots and pans, whistles and drums to make as much noise as possible.
